Oil Pastel Art Care Guide:
Handle with Care: Oil pastels never fully dry, so they can smudge easily. Always handle the art by the border, and avoid placing items on top of it.
Use the Specialized Protective Sheet: Each piece is provided with a protective sheet to prevent smudges and dust. Keep it on and ask your framer to use it, especially when placing the artwork upside down.
Framing Recommendations: Use a shadow box type frame with enough space to separate the art from the glass. This helps avoid direct contact with the glass and reduces the risk of damage. Smaller art pieces may be framed in regular frames, provided they have thick matting. Speak to your framer for further advice.
Avoid Dusty Environments: Do not expose the artwork to dusty conditions.
Display Tips: Place artwork away from direct sunlight and humid areas. Frame behind glass to protect it.
Fixatives/Varnishes: It is not recommended to use any fixative or varnish as it may alter the color, texture, and cause possible damage. It can also interfere with the lightfast ratings of the oil pastels used.
Materials: The oil pastels used are from Caran d'Ache, a Swiss company internationally renowned for the quality of their professional-grade artist materials. Their products have some of the highest lightfast ratings among top brands, ensuring the colors resist fading for decades.
